Indonesia is easily reached from all around the world. Garuda Indonesia Airways, the official Indonesian airlines, will bring you to Indonesia from all parts of the world. KLM, Lufthansa, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Qantas are some of the airlines that fly regularly into and out of the country through several international gateways: Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Medan, Batam, Manado, Ambon and Biak.

The currency used is Rupiah (Rp), which is available in 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 1,000, 500 and 100 bank notes and 1,000, 500, 100, 50 and 25 coins. The exchange rate for US$ as of February 1996 floats between Rp 2,300 and Rp 2,400 for US$ 1.00.

Upon arrival you should be able to show a passport valid for at least another six months, and proof of an onward or return ticket. There are currently forty two countries that their nationals can receive visa free entry upon arrival, which is valid for two months only and cannot be extended.

Airport tax for international passenger leaving the country is Rp 21,000 (just under US$ 10.00). Domestic airport tax also applies for those of you who fly domestic flights using tickets bought overseas, this usually varies between Rp 10,000 to Rp 15,000.
